The Writer’s Edge Philosophy
I am Susie* Bennett, the founder of Writer’s Edge, Inc. I have been teaching, writing, and editing for more than 30 years, predominantly in my career as a law professor, but also as a lawyer and writing coach. My goal has always been to educate while I edit so that my clients will gain skills to become better writers and editors, as well as critical thinkers. I provide reasons for my edits to anyone receiving my input. I believe that I’ve been able to help my students and clients (as well as many family members and friends) over the years through my accessibility, personable style, and focus on detail.
*Given that I focus on every word when I edit, my placement of this asterisk at the start would not surprise any of my former students. I wanted to explain why I use my nickname in my professional life. I’ve started each semester’s classes by introducing myself as, and permitting my students to call me, “Susie” as opposed to the more formal “Professor Bennett,” much to the dismay of some of my colleagues. I believe that breaking down that barrier of formality only helps the educational process. That was my experience as a Masters degree student, and I brought it with me to law school when I became a professor.
